  • Symbol/identity and collateral examples

    »Busted Ceiling
A symbol for an online network of tutors and application writers for those in and wanting to enter ivy league schools, geared towards affluent and sophisticated students with an emphasis on candidates in India.

    »Elemental Energy
For a solar (and other renewable) energy contractor in Hawaii who formerly ran an electronica record label.

    »Watermark Waikiki
For a luxury condo development in Honolulu with water features and explicitly Asian details in the environment, Ostrander-Chu agency asked for typographic options for their proposal. Balancing conservative and sophisticated approaches, I looked at patterns in oriental textiles and paintings, and used the pointed pen to create warmer variations.

    »Bluewater Multemedia
A Honolulu-based group of architectural renderers, modelers and programmers.

    »Fly Right Messengers
A quickly growing bike courier agency run by a former mainland US couriers, targeting clientel in the creative field. They are extremely hardcore but wanted to portray a corporate reliability, rather than connotations of extreme sports or a grungy ’Äòcourier lifestyle’Äô.

The bird is one which lives on the Hawaiian chain, and moves fast over land. Keeping it simple and straight was the drive behind the type and symbol treatment.

    »MBA Mission collateral
For a Toronto/Los Angeles firm which works with applicants to ivy-league business programs. The paired-down treatment shows the new company’Äôs identity as one that is current and exclusive.

    »Joan Bennet agency
Pentate Creative , based in Hawaii/California asked wanted a mark for a woman who runs a PR firm in Honolulu, which specialises in image and crisis management for public figures and the business world. Proposed were identities which had elements connoting freedom, positive energy, very simple treatments. I wanted most to illustrate the places where the client could take her own clients.

    »Dutch Language Union
During an internship at Studio Dumbar, Holland. A system for a medium-sized agency which is resonsible for managing the Dutch language in the Netherlands and its former colonies, it also is responsible for the Dutch lexicon.

My designs focused on the written and sonic structures of language as patterns of code, with the first system attributing specific punctuation marks with the various divisions of the organization. The writing/printout coverage area of the stationery could be defined by light screens of patterned punctuation marks. The second set uses distinctly Dutch sounds, dipthongs, and written vowel formations, which run across the back and front of all collateral: a formalisation of the way language is wrapped around all communication.

Throughout, the very Dutch typeface Dolly from Underware was used as a nod to the new Holland.
